Gwinnett Gladiators Hockey
The Gwinnett Gladiators raised their average attendance for the third consecutive season and finished in the top five in average attendance in the ECHL for the third time in the first five seasons in Gwinnett. In addition, the ECHL celebrated its 20th season by being the only minor professional hockey league to raise its attendance in 2007-08.
Gwinnett Braves
“We have known that Gwinnett County was interested in building a baseball stadium for
about a year coupled with the fact that we have had some challenges getting a new Triple-
A ballpark built in Richmond, made this attractive to have them in our backyard,” said Terry
McGuirk, Atlanta Braves Chairman and CEO.
The ballpark will be located at 2500 Buford Drive in Lawrenceville, on the west side of
Buford Drive, just north of the Buford Drive and Old Peachtree Road intersection. The
team will play the 2008 season in Richmond before relocating to the new state-of-the-art
facility starting in April of 2009.
Georgia Force Arena Football
Georgia Force is based in Duluth, Georgia and they are a football league team. They currently play for the National Conference in the Southern Division. Georgia Force first started off in 1997 as the Nashville Kats team; they played in the former Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville and were coached for two years by Eddie Khayat. In their First year they were awarded league of the year and were active in every season. In 2001, business man Virgil Williams bought over the franchise for $10 million and relocated the team to Atlanta. This was sequel to failure of the owners to agree on a favourable lease agreement with the tenant and manager of the arena. The team started of in Atlanta playing in the Phillips Arena later moved to Duluth and play in the Gwinnet Arena.
